Inauguration of the Capelas Qualification Centre marks the completion of a project developed by VHM

The inauguration ceremony of the Capelas Qualification Centre, in the Azores, took place in July, marking the completion of a comprehensive refurbishment project of the former Capelas Vocational School facilities.

VHM was responsible for the execution design of this intervention, which transformed the existing complex into a modern learning campus, prepared to meet the needs of contemporary professional education, innovation and skills development.

Located on a site of approximately 36,100 m², the project involved interventions across sixteen buildings, combining the preservation of the existing built heritage with new extensions and a complete reorganisation of the outdoor areas. The new complex includes training facilities, an auditorium, library, business incubator, specialised workshops and collaborative spaces.

The proposal focused on landscape integration, energy efficiency and accessibility, creating a functional and sustainable infrastructure designed to support skills development, innovation and professional qualification.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the President of the Recuperar Portugal Mission Structure and members of the Azorean Government, celebrating the delivery of a strategic facility for the region.

Funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), the Capelas Qualification Centre represents a €16.5 million investment in territorial development and the creation of new opportunities for learning, qualification and professional growth in the Azores.
