Visit of the President of Angola to the Quilonga Grande and Bita Water Treatment Plants

The President of the Republic of Angola, João Lourenço, visited on August 6, 2025, the construction works of the Quilonga Grande and Bita water projects, with the objective of assessing the progress of the works that will ensure the supply of drinking water to Luanda and the municipality of Icolo e Bengo, benefiting more than 6 million inhabitants.
President João Lourenço followed the works at the Quilonga Grande Water Treatment and Supply Plant, which is 51% complete, an infrastructure under construction in the municipality of Bom Jesus, in the recently created province of Icolo e Bengo.
The ongoing projects are part of the government’s efforts to reduce the water supply deficit in Luanda, with a public investment of more than 2 billion US dollars, generating jobs for around 400 young people.
During the visit, the President received technical clarifications about the works and observed the Kwanza River intake point with the piping already installed.
The Quilonga Grande project is expected to be completed next year and is considered of great importance for improving the quality of life of Luanda’s population, representing a significant step towards guaranteeing the right to safe drinking water for all citizens.
